For International Women’s Day we give you some less often known details about our very own international woman: Jennifer Secrist Goran. She says to skip ahead to the bottom of this post for your holiday coupon, lol!
Founded by Jennifer Secrist Goran in 2002, Tribe Nawaar is proud to be woman owned and operated. Jennifer started the marketplace with a small assortment of costuming specifically relating to the ATS® dance style, including her custom dyed Petticoat Skirts that she hand dyed one at a time on her kitchen stovetop. Since then she has continually focused that creative energy into growing her marketplace with new costuming, clothing and accessories for her dance community.
In addition to hand selecting or creating all the treasures for the marketplace, she also is the one behind shipping your orders, answering your emails/calls and all of the content on this great website.
Does she ever sleep?
We don’t know for sure. We are happy to say she does get some help from other local women in her community including Erin of EOB Consulting (super technical computer genius and festival lighting guru), Kristin Sue Photography (also a dancer with Tribe Nawaar and one of the sweetest people on the planet) and the other dancers in our dance company from time to time.
For the most part when Jennifer is not working, being a mom, teaching or performing she is pretty shy. In general, she loves learning about almost anything. She started making her first clothing and costuming for her dolls when she was 6 on a blue Holly Hobby sewing machine her mom gave her. As an adult, she continued that passion making Renaissance and other elaborate costuming. Additionally, she has taken apart vintage cars (and put them back together successfully ..probably the more important part), restored furniture, done most aspects of construction work, dabbled in landscaping and gardening and so much more. She loves almost every type of music and is constantly exploring new genres and artists. She also has background in art, design and composition. She worked for 12 years in the picture framing department of Amsterdam Art in Berkeley, California and can still be found creating beautiful frames.
On the more personal side, she’s the mom of a talented electronic musician and history buff, has 3 cats & loves badminton, harmonica and cello.
She says this is way too much info about her and that this next part is much more fun to read..
