Mata Hari Trivia
When The Nawaar Dance Company was originally building their Mata Hari tribute piece several of the troupe members researched her background extensively. During multiple rehearsals, when we would be discussing her life, choices and ability to continually reinvent herself amidst the backdrop of the era’s mindset, we would all simultaneously feel these cold drafts pass thru the room and get the intense feeling of being watched. True story.
Of all the books we read, the one most of us enjoyed for both it’s history, perspective and readability was Femme Fatale by Pat Shipman.
After Mata Hari’s execution, her body was donated to science and her head was embalmed and sent to the Museum of Anatomy in Paris. In 2000, it was discovered to be missing and to this day it’s whereabouts are still unknown.
