Another theatrical performance of ours used a large ship that we had built out of gator board (maybe another how to guide?). Our ship was complete with masts, ‘decaying’ sails and, of course, with creepy passengers (who would later have their souls stolen by sirens). The lace choli top modification we did for the passengers was a big hit with both performers and audience members! We’ve used this modified lace choli in other non-themed shows, as well. Here I’ll guide you thru recreating this lace choli top look for yourself.
Enjoy,
Jennifer
Lace Choli Top Modification Steps
Any color or lace pattern choli we carry can be modified to create this look. For this performance we used all white lace choli tops.
Use a serger or a standard sewing machine with a tight zig zag stitch for best results with sewing this stretchy fabric.
1. Remove The Sleeves
Carefully cut the sleeves off the choli top. Cut around the gussets on the choli. That should leave you with cut off sleeves that look like this.
The Underarm
With the top inside out, pin the underarm seam about a 1/4", following this line up and thru the gusset. Cut excess gusset fabric off. Stitch.
The Arm
You want a mostly round shape for the arm hole. Cut away excess fabric around this area, if needed. Fold in 1/4" of the raw edge, then repeat for a double folded edge. Stitch.
The Sleeve
Fold in 1/4" of the raw edge on the top of the sleeve, then repeat for a double folded edge. Stitch.
Note: you can add a small strip of elastic here to help keep the sleeves from sliding down.
Optional Tie Method
We wanted a halter type look (vs. a basic sleeveless look) so we changed how we tied the neck ties at the back. Th
Take the neck tie, fish it thru the arm. Wrap the tie once around the gathered and tie as usual.
Choose A Lace Choli Color
This modification can be used on any of our lace choli tops, so get creative! All new and updated images now show you the fabric colors and pattern variations available in better detail than ever before.
Well, that’s about all you need to recreate this look. I hope you find it inspirational. Happy dancing! ~Jennifer
