Cultivate a direct connection with the basic Middle Eastern rhythms to improve your skills as a belly dancer.
Strengthen your skills as a dancer by gain depth of expression and being better able to anticipate the changing patterns of the music. In addition to improving dance phrasing having a performers switch back and forth between dancing and performing is dynamic in a stage performance. We like to add a drum accompaniment with our chorus dancers from time to time to mix things up.
And…We’ve been super thankful our dancers are able to bust out some basic rhythms when we’ve had the sound system completely go out at one of our annual outdoor festivals. We were able to keep the show going with just a couple of drums and our zils.
It’s also a nice bonus to be able to jump in and play with random drum circles, too!
Prerequisite:
No drumming experience necessary. We typically do NOT have loaner drums. So bring your drum(s) from home. Don’t own one yet? We often will have a limited supply of doumbeks/darbukas (the quintessential Middle Eastern drum) and the occasional frame drum available for purchase in the studio. Email us ahead of time to ensure we have one that will suit your needs. Not sure you’re ready to invest in a drum yet? Feel free to join us anyhow. You can practice the rhythms on your zils or with your hands on your thighs, as well.
2 hours, price varies
