Learn wear, use and drilling practice tips to gain the skills and confidence to add zils to your dance repertoire.
The natural accompaniment to a belly dancer’s performance are the zils. Also known as zills, sagat or finger cymbals, they are a bonafide instrument that can express emotion and create drama. That doesn’t mean they are easy to play for many dancers, however.
Over the years we have heard the comments: “I absolutely CANNOT zil”, “I’ve tried zilling and I just hate it” and we even had one student say she would only take classes if she was not asked to zil. Guess what? ALL of these dancers ended up being solid and consistent zillers.. and even had FUN playing them!
If you’ve struggled to add these instruments to your dance, let Jennifer help. Her gentle and patient instruction along with helpful tips, guided practice and drills will help you to begin confidently dancing with zils.
Prerequisite:
No previous zil experience needed. We will have a few loaner zils to borrow during the workshop and we also have several nice quality and affordable finger cymbal sets for sale.
